I worked at the Public Library with Gwen for several years and have fond memories of that time. Although I saw her infrequently after that I always enjoyed catching up with her. As her vision problems grew worse I admired the way she persevered, kept on doing what she could and made adjustments to her life style with grace and humor.
She was a remarkable lady. I'm glad I got to know her.
I was sorry to read of Mrs. Ball's death in yesterday's paper. I've been delivering food to her on Mondays for the past few years and enjoyed our brief encounters. She always greeted me with a smile and a comment about the weather or a "thank you." You got the feeling that she thought life was good and so were you for coming by. I always came away from her doorstep feeling like we had made a small but valuable connection. My husband and I will miss seeing her on our route.
