Vincent Albert Iverson

November 30, 1936 — December 10, 2018

Vincent Albert Iverson, a beloved husband, father, teacher and friend, died peacefully after a long illness on December 10, 2018 in Louisville Colorado. He was 81. He was born in Montevideo City, Minnesota to Leonard Iverson and Sylvia Wollan. An avid lover of knowledge from a young age, Vince graduated from the University of Minnesota (B.A. , Philosophy) and continued his studies at Harvard University (S.T.B.) and Yale University (M.A. and Ph.D.). Vince met his wife Nancy Ryan Iverson at Yale Divinity School, and they were married in New Haven Connecticut in 1963.

Vince joined the faculty at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia in 1967 where he served as an Associate Professor of Philosophy until 2003.Vince had wide-ranging knowledge in theology, philosophy, and logic. His teaching focused on helping students hone their analytical and problem solving skills. As a commitment to personal growth he developed a new course each year in topics ranging from Artificial Intelligence to Moral Philosophy. He also taught regular classes in the history of philosophy, logic and problem-solving, symbolic logic, and existentialism.

Warm and caring to all he met, he was beloved by friends and family for his thoughtful compassion, silly humor, and exceptionally kind heart. A lifelong lover and observer of animals, birds especially brought him great delight. He will be deeply missed for his gentle nature and bright spirit. He is survived by his wife Nancy Ryan Iverson of Boulder, Colorado, daughter Kate Iverson (and partner Mark Reid) of Boulder, Colorado, daughter Carrie Iverson (and husband Jeremy Scidmore) of Arlington Texas, and granddaughters Elli and Emi Gerwing of Boulder, Colorado.

The family would particularly like to thank the caregiving staff of Balfour Cherrywood Village in Louisville, Colorado for their kind and compassionate care.
