Sharene Kay Owen

November 30, 1949 — April 29, 2018

Sharene "Shari" Kay (Leonard) Owen, 67, of Coal Creek Canyon, Colorado, died Sunday April 29, 2018.

Shari was born in a spring blizzard on May 5, 1950 in Boulder, Colorado to Kenneth and Dorene (Edwards) Leonard.

She graduated from Fairview High School in Boulder, Colorado and attended the University of Colorado.

Shari worked at Boulder Housing Authority as an affordable housing Leasing Manager until her retirement in 2014.

She married Joseph Bruce Owen, Jr in 1970 at Saint Aiden's Episcopal Church in Boulder. They purchased their home in Coal Creek Canyon, Colorado in 1972 and have remained there among the pine trees and flowers.

How can an obituary be written for someone who was too wonderful for words? Shari was an exceptional mother to her two children, maintained relationships with many childhood friends and nurtured new relationships with co-workers along her journey. Emphatic that she was too young to be a grandmother, she found that the role suited her well and she treasured every moment with her five grandchildren. She remained close to her family throughout the years. She could be counted on to give wise, thoughtful advice to her two sisters and brother and she adored her nieces and nephews. She lovingly cared for her father after the death of her mother.

She will be lovingly remembered as a wife, mother, friend and powerful advocate of animals and nature.

She was preceded in death by her mother Dorene Leonard. Shari is survived by her husband Joseph Bruce Owen Jr, daughter Jody Litchford (Jeff), son Jeremy Bruce Owen (Fiona), 5 grandchildren (Morgan, Emma, Justin, Gabriel and Sophia), her father Kenneth Leonard, her sisters Patrice and Jennifer, and her brother Randal.

A Life Celebration Picnic will be held on Saturday, May 26 at 11:00am at the Foothills Community Park, 800 Cherry Street, North Boulder. Food and drink will be provided.
