Norman B. “Chief” Bowers, 72, of Ward died on Sunday, September 17, 2017, of congestive heart failure at his home with family by his side.
He was born on December 9, 1944, to Charles J. and Minnie (Gottschalck) Bowers in Denver. Norman spent three years at CU Boulder and moved to Ward in 1968, where he began his 32 year career as a hard rock miner. “Strong as two mules” according to his brother. Norman was also very dedicated in actively supporting his community, spending 43 years as Fire Chief of Indian Peaks Fire Protection District, 35 years as Town Marshal of Ward, and 35 years as Ward Water Operator.
Norman was preceded in death by his wife, Rena Mans. He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Gay Paxton of Ward; sons John Mans of Boulder; David Mans and Darr Paxton, both of Longmont; and brother Robert Bowers of Greeley.
A celebration of Norman’s life will be held on Saturday, September 30, at 1:00 p.m. at Ward Community Church, the historic church on Modoc Street, Ward, CO 80481.
