Megan Yoder Wenninger, 53, passed away on February 10th, 2017 at her home in Broomfield, CO after battling lung cancer. Throughout that battle, her smile never wavered, her positive attitude never faltered, and her love never waned.
Born on January 31st, 1964 in Boulder, CO to parents Clifford and Madonna Yoder, Megan loved her home in Colorado, graduated from Fairview High School and attended the University of Colorado at Boulder, Regis, DeVry, and Front Range. She worked as a professional in Human Resources for several local companies including McData and Packaging Resources. Megan was studying to be a Pharmacy Technician at the time of her diagnosis. Megan also worked with the CU football team, and, as a child, attended basketball games at CU with her dad, Clifford, who was responsible for much of the CU Student Housing. Megan had great fun attending practices with her dad and being a ball girl for the basketball team.
Megan married Don Wenninger on September 4th, 2003 in beautiful St. Lucia. The couple spent time in Fort Meyers, FL, where they attended mass at St. Columbkille Catholic Parish. Don and Megan spent two years in Espoo, Finland, working, and traveling around Finland with new friends. Megan relished time traveling in Europe, particularly Antibes, Joigny, and a month long boat tour of the canals of France in April of 2014. France was her favorite place to visit. In her spare time, Megan enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting, and cooking. Her picture album is full of those memories.
Preceded in death by her parents and grandparents, Megan is survived by her brother, Tom Hoekstra (Austin, TX); her sister, Molli Yoder (Denver, CO); and her beloved husband, Don, who eloquently describes her legacy: “Megan is the love of my life, and the painful struggle over this last year fighting cancer broke my heart. Her beautiful smile, addictive laugh, and loving heart lifted me up every day and lifted everyone’s spirit around her. I miss her so much.”
A gathering of family and close friends will be held at Megan’s home in Broomfield. Please contact Don Wenninger for specific information. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Colorado Cancer Centers Foundation, SCLHS 200 Exempla Circle, Broomfield, CO 80021. Thank you for your kind thoughts and prayers.
