Mary Isabel Duffy, 91, a resident of Broomfield, died on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at the TRU Community Hospice in Longmont, CO.
“Isabel” was born October 21, 1931, in Pittsburgh, PA to Jerome and Margaret (Cain) Madden. She attended St. Mary’s High School in Pittsburgh, PA where she excelled in academics as well as becoming an accomplished pianist. In her youth, Isabel also developed a deep and abiding faith that formed the bedrock of her early life. She later attended Loyola University in Chicago, IL. In 1959, Isabel married Patrick C. Duffy. After stops in New Jersey and Chicago, she and her family moved to Boulder in 1976.
Prior to moving to Colorado, she worked in the aviation industry for Trans World Airlines during the “Golden Age of Air Travel” in the 1950s. She followed that with her next profession: full-time mommyhood in the 1960s. However, Isabel is most known for her career as a Jungian psychoanalyst from the 1980s until earlier this year.
She is survived by her sons Patrick J. (Bernice) and Dan (Michelle) of Broomfield, CO; siblings Mary Margaret Taylor of Pittsburgh, PA, Sist. Mary Joanne Madden of Scranton, PA, and John Leo Madden (Johnetta) of Pittsburgh, PA; grandchildren Shannon of Atlanta, GA, Sean of Denver, CO, and Liam of Los Angeles, CA. Isabel was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Jerome, Sist. Mary Elizabeth and Patrick Madden, her husband, Patrick, and sons Sean and John.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, May 19, at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church Cemetery, 6739 S. Boulder Rd., Boulder, CO, 80303.
