Lori Palmer

November 30, 1963 — April 26, 2020

Lori A. Palmer was born on December 14,1964, to parents Carol and Wayne Nau in Worthington, Minnesota. She passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2020, in Lafayette, Colorado. She was the oldest of three siblings with a brother Wayne and sister Kari. Lori was the mother of five including Terralyn and her older siblings, Elizabeth (Liz), Majesta (Jes), Tyler and Danielle. She had two grandchildren, Harrison and Maddox, who she loved dearly. Lori also had several aunts and uncles along with 35 nieces and nephews. Lori was the kind of person who knew how to live life, how to gather a crowd and make people stop and look. She knew how to grab people’s attention. Everywhere she went, she made friends which gave her a strong friend base in Colorado and in Worthington, MN, her hometown. She was loved by all with whom she came in contact with her humor and smile lighting up a room. After graduating from Worthington High School, she moved on to beauty school where she planned on becoming a hairdresser. She never got to obtain her dream of becoming a hairdresser, but, at that point, God had some other plans in store. Lori and her husband Jim who she married on September 21, 1985, started fostering 160 children over a 7 year period. Out of the 160 children, Terralyn, Liz and Jes were adopted. Terralyn remembers the first time she called her mom. As she was getting up to her chair at the table, she called her “Lori.” “She stopped me and said, ‘You can call me mom you know.’” Although shocked, little did she know that she would be the one who Terralyn considered her mom the most. Terralyn credits her as being someone who saved her from a terrible home. Lori was her mom, always the hero. Lori was the owner/operator of My Inspired Abode (home décor shop). She was the only full-time paraprofessional with the Preschool Wrap Around Program at Longmont’s Fall River Elementary School. Working with pre-school children, day and foster care brought her great joy. Her goal in retirement – rocking babies at the hospital. She is survived by her husband James J. Palmer (Erie, CO) and her parents, Wayne and Carol Nau (Worthington, MN). Paternal and maternal grandparents preceded her in death. A funeral mass will be celebrated by Father Rob Wedow on Friday, May 15, 2020 at 11 a.m.at St. Scholastica Catholic Church, 615 Main Street, Erie, CO. The family requests any memorial donations in Lori’s name should be sent to the American Heart Association (P.O. Box 742030, Los Angeles, CA 90074-20300) or Boulder County Foster Parents Association (% Colorado State Foster Parents Association, 2497 Fenton Street, Edgewater, CO 80214).
