Dr. Kenneth M. Huggins, Ph.D., 81, a resident of Broomfield & a former resident of Denver and Omaha, NE, died Saturday, July 6, 2013.
A Celebration of Ken's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at the Cherry Creek Presbyterian Church, 10150 E. Belleview Ave. Englewood, CO 80111. A reception will follow the service at the church.
Ken was born April 18, 1932 in Geddes, South Dakota to Benjamin F. & Nellie Mae (Haney) Huggins. He graduated from Geddes High School, received a B.A. in accounting from Dakota Wesleyan University, Mitchell, SD, received his Masters in International Business from the University of Indiana in Bloomington, IN and a Ph.D. in Finance from Texas Tech. in Lubbock, TX
He had a long career in the business world including teaching Business at Dakota Wesleyan (1966-1970) and the University of Nebraska at Omaha (1970-1978), Treasurer and CFO for the Farm Credit Banks in Omaha (1978-1984), Director of College Financial Planning in Denver (1984-1987), and 17 years at Metro State College as finance Professor and Chair of the Finance Dept. (1987-2004). He retired from Metro in 2004 at the age of 72.
Ken passed away after a long battle with multiple health problems. After retiring, he travelled, gardened, spent time with family & friends and hosted many social gatherings. Ken was known for his many Christmas, Super Bowl and pool parties. He had a full and active life and will be missed by many for his gentle nature, kind heart, and determined spirit.
He was an active member of the Ports of Call Senior Singles Group and former President of the Cherry Creek Homeowners Association.
Survivors: One son Brian (Michele) Huggins of Parker, CO; one daughter Suzanne (Daniel) Meehan of Superior, CO; his former wife Florence Huggins of Broomfield, CO; one brother Glen Huggins of Geddes, SD; two sisters Leola Ragghianti of San Francisco, CA & Elinor Bridges of Geddes, SD; eight grandchildren: Joshua, Michaela and Sean Huggins; Jordan, Mariah, and Rachael Meehan; Luke and Conner Huggins. Preceded in death by sons Sean Thomas Huggins June 5, 1999 and Ronald Kenneth Huggins on April 15, 2010.
