Julie Frey

Julia "Julie" Frey passed away at her Boulder home on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013 after a long battle with cancer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013 at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 6739 S. Boulder Road in Boulder, followed by burial at the cemetery and a reception at the church. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Donald Albert Poulton and Margery Bringhurst Poulton on April 19, 1949. She was the second of four children. Julie was 5 years old when her family moved to Boulder. She grew up attending Boulder public schools and graduated from Boulder High School. She later graduated from the University of Colorado with a BA in Speech Pathology. After college she worked for United Airlines, which allowed her to pursue her interest in travel. She later went to work for NeoData in Boulder as the account representative for U.S. News and World Report. Julie married Larry F. Frey in Boulder on Aug. 21, 1976. They lived their entire married life in Boulder, where they raised their son, Taylor, and daughter, Kelly. Julie had a wide variety of interests. She especially enjoyed traveling the world with her husband, children and friends. She was a great reader of history, biography and politics and always enjoyed a good political discussion. She also enjoyed many sports, including skiing, tennis, golf and hiking. She was a very active volunteer, especially in the Boulder public schools. She served on many community boards, including for the CU-Boulder Alumni Association and Boulder Country Club. She also was a volunteer tour guide at the state capitol in Denver for many years. Julie was an avid fan of CU Buffaloes and Denver Broncos football and was a long-time member of the Buffalo Belles. She loved attending plays and musicals, particularly at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. She enjoyed and collected both Western and modern art. Above all, Julie was passionate about her family and friends. She was a wonderful mom, loving wife and supportive friend who always thought of others before herself.
