John Duffy

November 30, 1960 — December 10, 2020

John Leo Duffy, 59, of Las Vegas, Nevada died on December 10, 2020 at Saint Rose Dominican Hospital in Las Vegas. He was laid to rest on December 17, 2020 at Sacred Heard of Mary Catholic Church Cemetery in Boulder, Colorado. John was well known for his generosity of spirit and big heart, as well as a legion of friends and family spanning coast to coast. He never needed social media to reconnect with people because he never fell out of touch with them to begin with. Friendship, faith, and family formed the bedrock of his life. John was born in 1961 in New Jersey to Patrick and Mary Isabel Duffy. He moved with his family to Boulder, Colorado in 1976 where he became an avid skier. He graduated from Fairview High School class of 1979 where he lettered in football. He attended Regis University in Denver, class of 1985, and flourished as a dedicated scholar and member of student government. Next, he moved to South Bend, Indiana and attended the University of Notre Dame Law School class of 1988. After spending the next few years between Colorado and Nevada, passing the bar exam in both states, John settled in Las Vegas in 1995. He married Shari Kaufman in 1996 and son Liam was born in 1998. John worked as a defense attorney in Las Vegas for nearly 25 years. He is survived by his mother, Isabel, Broomfield, CO, wife, Shari, Las Vegas, NV, son Liam, Las Vegas, NV, brother, Patrick (Bernice) of Broomfield, CO, Daniel (Michelle) of Broomfield, CO, nephews David, Gray, and Sean and niece Shannon, and special canine friend, Stella. He is preceded in death by his father, Patrick, in 2011 and brother, Sean, in 1968. Lastly, there is a quote from A.A. Milne’s Winnie the Pooh that captures John’s life. “If there ever comes a day when we can’t be together, keep me in your heart, I’ll stay there forever.” A celebration of John’s life will be held at a future date. Contributions may be made in his name to Regis University’s scholarship fund.
