John Adolph Civins

November 30, 1941 — March 29, 2023

At age 81, after living a full life, John A. Civins passed away at his home March 29, 2023. After 22 years, John retired from Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church right before the pandemic. John was born to Adolph P. Civins and Virginia C. Raczon Civins on February 24, 1942 in Chicago, IL, the eldest of their seven children. After graduating from Notre Dame High School and the Academy of Arts, he worked as a creative art director for ad agencies in Chicago and Denver. On January 4, 1964, John married Victoria Torroll in Northbrook, IL, and thus began their marriage of 59 years during which time they welcomed their two children, Pamela and Philip. They made their home of 46 years in Boulder and Louisville, CO after a move from Chicago. His family remembers him as a great husband, father, grandfather, and brother who was easy going, took life one day at a time, and enjoyed being with his family. While life wasn’t always easy, not much bothered him as he made the most of each day. John always had a house project going or was working in the yard. Playing golf, cheering for the Rockies at Coors Field, sitting on the beach in Mexico, fishing, going on a hike or enjoying a craft beer or two with friends rounded out his happiness. John is survived by his wife Victoria (Vicki) of Louisville, CO, daughter Pamela (Laura Koepnick) Civins of Thornton, CO and son Philip (Kimberly) Civins of Norcross, GA. His brothers Alan (Colleen) Civins , Grayslake, IL, Douglas (Bonnie) Civins, Hawthorn Woods, IL, Bert Civins, Fountain Hills, AZ and sisters Patricia (Karl) Costello, Fountain Hills, AZ, Barbara (Jim) Lang, Huntley, IL, and Linda (Terry) McCarthy, Huntley, IL survive him along with two grandchildren, Allison and Emma of Norcross, GA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Andrew Kemberling at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 6739 South Boulder Road, 80303. A reception will follow the service. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Humane Society of Boulder Valley (Boulder), Community Food Share (Louisville) or Emergency Family Assistance Association/ EFFA (Boulder).
