Janice Luann Giles

Janice Fisher (nee) Giles was born on August 1^st, 1949, at Cottage Hospital, Galesburg Ill. to Charles Frank Fisher and Irene Verna Fisher. She grew up as a voracious reader which endured her whole life. Janice graduated with honors from Warren County Independent School District. She attended the University of Illinois and earned a Master of Library Science degree. After an assignment as a librarian at Knox College in Galesburg Illinois, she accepted a position as children’s librarian at Dallas Public Library. After spending over 10 years in her position in Dallas, Janice accepted a position as head librarian at Fort Lupkin (Colorado) public and school library where she worked for several years. Janice always had a passion as a children's storyteller and was in demand throughout her lifelong assignments. She hosted weekly storytelling events for children in her community which were well received. Janice was active in the Lutheran church and sang in the choir. She was an active owner of pets, dogs, and cats. Her shelty dogs were entered into numerous agility training meets. She adopted several dogs and cats over several years and was well-known at animal shelters. After her retirement, Janice substituted when various libraries in the area needed assistance. Janice passed away on April 24^th, 2014, in Frederick, CO. She was survived by her sister Joyce Fisher Gooding of Hillsboro, Ill, and her brother Curtis Fisher of Austin Texas. She also had 8 nephews and nieces. A service will be held on Saturday, June 22^nd at 9 am at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Longmont Colorado. A reception will be held at the church.  All who know Janice are welcome to attend.
