Frank Emil Mouffe

November 30, 1925 — October 21, 2015

Longtime Boulder resident Frank Emil Mouffe passed away on October 21st, 2015 in Louisville, CO. He was 89. Born in Boulder on April 3rd, 1926 to Alfred M. Mouffe and Olga Lind Mouffe, Frank spent most of his life in this city he loved so much. He graduated from Boulder High School in 1944 and soon thereafter joined the United States Army Air Corps. During his two years of service, Frank worked as a Photographic Laboratory Technician, qualified as a Carbine Marksman, and earned the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, and Victory Ribbon. As World War II ended, Frank received his Honorable Discharge and enrolled at the University of Colorado where, in addition to his studies, he enjoyed the opportunity to play clarinet with the CU marching band. After his time at CU, Frank married Barbara Swann Mouffe on September 1st, 1951 in Dedham, MA. Frank spent his career working as a Loss-Prevention Engineer for Aetna Casualty. While his job occupied much of his time, he enjoyed many other diverse pursuits. Frank loved the outdoors, especially hiking and backpacking in and around the wondrous beauty of the Rocky Mountains. An accomplished carpenter and engineer, he spent two years designing and building the family home in Boulder; further, Frank managed the maintenance of a separate rental property here in town. When his eldest son, Frank H. Mouffe, was ready to drive, the two Franks spent a year restoring a Ford Model A pickup to great working condition; so great, in fact, that it still remains in Frank H.’s barn and runs just fine. They later restored a Model A coupe from the same era. When the kids were on summer vacation, Frank enjoyed taking the family to visit his family’s cabin in New Brunswick, Canada. In his retirement years, Frank travelled extensively, visiting Australia and New Zealand, touring much of Europe and Asia, and trekking to 18,000 feet in the Everest region of Nepal. At home in Boulder, he enjoyed spending time with Barbara, his beloved wife of 64 years, and his extended family. As well, he found a joyful peace during his daily hikes around Wonderland Lake. Barbara now resides in Louisville, CO, and Frank is additionally survived by his three sons and their families: Frank H. Mouffe (Carbondale, CO), David H. Mouffe (Erie, CO), and Eric A. Mouffe (Anchorage, AK), including one grandson, Travis Mouffe, and two great-grandchildren. Contributions: TRU Community Care, 2594 Trailridge Drive East, Lafayette, CO 80026.
