Edward Jackson Morrison, 87, passed away in Boulder, CO on October 6th, 2016 from congestive heart failure. A local resident since 1959 and long-time professor at the University of Colorado, he will be missed by family and community. Born July 16th, 1929 in Clarksburg, WV to Marshal Jackson Morrison and Tensie Smith Morrison, Edward graduated from Salem High School (Salem, WV). He then furthered his education at West Virginia University, earning a B.S. in Business. Edward continued his academic pursuits at Indiana University, his efforts culminating in both an M.B.A. and a Doctorate in Business Administration. In 1952, Ed joined the U.S. Army Signal Corp, then transitioned to the Army Reserves and ascended to the rank of Captain. He honed his business skills at Fuller Brush and Lockheed Martin before focusing on teaching. Professor Morrison taught at CU Boulder from 1968 until 1994, and he positively impacted countless students. Ed married Mary Jane Perry Morrison on October 9th, 1972 in Boulder, CO. Sadly, after thirty-eight years of marriage, she passed away on July 6th, 2011. Sisters Louise Morrison Winter and Margaret Kern also preceded Ed in death. He is survived by nieces Margaret Elizabeth Champion (Chapel Hill, NC), Linda Ann Winter (Sebastopol, CA), Susan Joyce Winter (Washington, D.C.), nephews Franklin William Kern, Jr. (Charleston, WV), Daniel Morrison Winter (San Jose, CA), stepsons Kirk R. Smith (Hollywood, FL), Perry W. Smith (Boulder, CO), and one grandson, Agustin Smith. His involvement in the community vastly ranged from memberships in Beta Gamma Sigma (Honors Society, Engineering), Sigma Iota Epsilon (Honors Society, Management), The Audubon Society, and the American Civil Liberties Union. Ed was an avid birder, a tremendous vegetable gardener, and a committed golfer. He loved to sing folksongs and play guitar, even appearing on the radio for a while. With a passion for learning, he enjoyed traveling in the states and abroad. Ed, Professor Morrison, was deeply loved by family and friends. A memorial service will be held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 1318 Mapleton Ave, Boulder, CO 80304 on Saturday, December 3rd at 10:00 AM. A graveside service with Military Honors provided by the United States Army will be held at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church Cemetery, 6739 S Boulder Rd, Boulder, CO 80303 at 11:30 A.M.
