David "Dave" Maes, longtime resident of Louisville, CO, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2017 after a courageous battle with colon cancer with his family by his side. David was born May 1, 1967 in Boulder, CO to Sharon (Arroyas) and Benjamin Maes. He was the oldest and only boy of 4 siblings who he loved dearly. Dave attended Louisville Elementary, Louisville Middle School, and Centaurus High School his freshman year before transferring to Broomfield High School. Dave played little league football for the Louisville Pirates, then later played soccer and participated in a variety of plays in high school. David was a fan of WWE wrestling, the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Blackhawks, Arsenal Football Club, Colorado Rapids, the Denver Broncos and of course, an enormous railfan! He was a technological genius: he could fix or figure out any and everything there is to know about any electronic. The thing he enjoyed the most was his KNPL radio show that he kept going for over 30 years to keep in contact with his friends and family. He brought everyone together with the joy of music including funny, witty, thoughtful, and thought provoking DJ Spots. He had such an amazingly large and diverse variety of music that could easily express how people were feeling, or remind us of someone, something, or simple good memories. David's love for music was one of a kind. He also gave that type of love to his faithful doggie companion, Dash 8 aka Dasher. David was an intelligent, sweet, amusing, creative, intriguing, and entertaining human being who will be missed immensely by all those who loved and cared about him. David is preceded in death by his grandmother, Eva Arroyas; grandfather, Edward V. Arroyas; uncle, Edward A. Arroyas; and aunt, Barbara Roberts. He is survived by his mother, Sharon Maes of Louisville; father, Benjamin Maes of Longmont; sisters, Julie Maes of Louisville, Alison Roberts of Broomfield and Melissa (Michael Sr.) Najera of Denver; aunt, Kathy Lopez of Federal Heights; seven nieces and nephews; three great-nieces; as well as numerous friends far and wide. Funeral services will take place at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, February 28th at St. Louis Catholic Church, 902 Grant Avenue, Louisville CO.
