Clarence Wood

Clarence H. "Woody" Wood Jr., 84, of Louisville, formerly of Boulder, died on Friday, August 16, 2013 at the Balfour Retirement Community. A Celebration of Woody's Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 3485 Stanford Court, Boulder. A reception will follow at the church. Private family burial will be held at Mountain View Memorial Park Cemetery in Boulder Woody was born on July 29, 1929 in Pueblo, Colorado to Clarence, Sr. and Ruth (Hall) Wood. He graduated from Boulder High School in the Class of 1947 and married Mary Hutchinson (passed March 14, 1981), on December 29, 1950. Woody went on to complete his degree in Business and Marketing from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 1959 after serving as Sergeant in the United States Army from 1951-1953. Woody entered the Aerospace industry with Martin-Marietta and stayed in the industry his entire career with Ball Aerospace as a Marketing Manager for 22 years and Manager of Community Relations for 6 years. He retired from Ball in 1993, at which time travel and golf became his primary occupations. Throughout his life, Woody was very involved in the Boulder area community and in serving others. He was a lifetime member of the Foothills Kiwanis Club of Boulder, where he served as the President (1976-1977) and achieved the status of Lusche Fellow in 1998. While with Ball Aerospace, Woody was awarded the Ball Corporation Community Service Award in 1991 and was a member of the Ball Aerospace and Technologies Corporation Quarter Century Club. He served on the Boulder Community Hospital Board (1966-1975), the Hospice of Boulder and Broomfield Counties Board of Directors (1991-1997) and the Foundation for Boulder Valley Schools. Woody was also active in many other community organizations during his life, including the Boulder Chamber of Commerce and the United Way of Boulder County. He was also given the Colorado Outstanding Individual Award for Volunteerism in Colorado Education by the Colorado Association of Partners in Education (2005). Woody will be truly missed and forever remembered by the entire Boulder community. On March 25, 1985, Woody married Jean Kepler (passed September 17, 2007). Woody is survived by his sons David (Sally) Wood of Loveland, CO; Jeffrey (Laura) Wood of Lower Gwynedd, PA; James (Susan) Wood of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter Katherine Wood (Rosemary Busterna) of Northglenn, CO; brother-in-law Robert Drew, Arvada, CO; sister-in-law Carol Drew, Arvada, CO; stepsons Peter (Jill) Kepler of Westminster, CO; Michael (Cindy) Kepler of Berthoud, CO; step-daughters Susan (Don) Clifford of Ft. Morgan, CO; Lisa (Eldon) Martin of Canon City, CO; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and numerous friends.
