Charles (Charlie) Dinwiddie, a longtime Boulder banker, passed away on January 25, 2025, at the age of 92. Charlie grew up in Bedford, IA, born on June 20, 1932, in Creston, IA, to Arthur and Ethel Jane Gates Dinwiddie. He attended the University of Iowa, earning a bachelor’s degree in business.
On July 27, 1966, he married Jean Brown in Glenshaw, PA. They settled in Boulder, CO, where they spent 58 years together, raising their two children Scott and Beth. Charlie built a decades-long career in banking, starting at First National Bank before spending most of his career at Arapahoe National Bank.
A dedicated member of the Boulder Evening Optimist Club for 60 years, Charlie volunteered with numerous youth programs and events. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church, serving on various committees and as an usher, where he warmly greeted members of both the church and the Boulder community. Additionally, he served as a board member of the Golden West Retirement Center for many years.
Tennis was one of Charlie’s great passions. He played at the Meadows Club and later with a close-knit group of tennis friends. He also loved the Colorado outdoors, spending time hiking and camping in Rocky Mountain National Park, where he climbed Longs Peak twice.
Family and friends remember Charlie as a kind, honest, quiet man who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to help others. He embodied both frugality and generosity in equal measure.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Jean; his son, Scott (Johnnie Bairos) of San Diego, CA; his daughter, Elizabeth (Eric) Benson, and his grandsons, Ryan and Adam Benson of Longmont, CO.
