Clara Louise Siefken

Clara Louise Siefken was born in Platte County, Nebraska on April 20, 1920 and passed away in Boulder, Colorado on December 4, 2017 at the age of 97.


A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 9, at 10:00 AM at Mount Hope Lutheran Church, 1345 South Broadway, Boulder, CO 80305. A reception will follow the service. A burial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 13 at the Columbus Cemetery in Columbus, Nebraska.


Clara was one of six children of Otto and Louise (Groteleuschen) Johannes and grew up on two farmsteads north of Columbus. She married Arthur Frederick Siefken on October 8, 1941 in Christ Lutheran Church north of Columbus and for most of their married life, they farmed north of Columbus. They moved into Columbus in 1980 and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary before Arthur passed away in 2001. The following year, Clara moved to Boulder to live closer to her daughter.


Clara attended Christ Lutheran School and was a life-long member of the Lutheran Church. In addition to being a farm wife and mother, she worked at Becton-Dickinson, retiring after 20 years of service.  Clara was an excellent seamstress and loved sewing and doing cross-stitch until her eyesight failed in later years. Card playing was a favorite past-time during her married years, and she continued to look forward to a weekly game with her children and grandchildren until her passing.


She is survived by her son Myron and daughter-in-law Mary of San Antonio, Texas; son Gayle of Ainsworth, Nebraska; daughter Doris Koepke and son-in-law Galen of Nederland, Colorado; and daughter-in-law Myrtle of Idaho Falls, Idaho. She is also survived by three grandsons, Hoyt Koepke of Seattle, Washington; Lucas Koepke and wife Amanda of Superior, Colorado; and Seth Siefken of Ft. Collins, Colorado; three granddaughters, Stacey Siefken Hinkle and great-granddaughters Sinath and Mya of Kansas City, Missouri; Kerri Resing, husband Tom, and great-granddaughter Elise of Kirkland, Washington; and Heidi Blatherwick, husband Donovan, and great-grandsons Nixon and Jack of Colorado Springs, Colorado.


She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur in 2001; son Larry; brothers Elmer, Ernest, and Walter; and sisters Alvina Lutjelusche and Arnella Waak
